This year, romance so far, romance has mostly been the theme as we have seen a great number of series with this themed genre being released. Interesting, funny, groundbreaking, or simply just intriguing, here are 6 romance-themed K-Dramas released so far this year that you should watch.  

1. “Semantic Error”

Perhaps one of the most-watched and recognized BL dramas this year, “Semantic Error” was much more than how handsome the actors looked but the interesting plot and story the series told. Starring Park SeoHam as Jang JaeYoung and DKZ’s JaeChan as Choo SangWoo, the series tells the story of two university students who due to a misunderstanding gets into a conflicting relationship that only led to more confusion as they both have to deal with the rising complicated feelings spurred by their constant interaction with each other. Exploring the ever so thin line between love and hate, we watch both characters explore the true meaning behind their feelings and their panging desire to be together.  

2. “Business Proposal”

A fake relationship turned into true love. While we might be used to this troupe or storyline in K-Dramas, one of the many things that make it fit so well with this drama is how light-hearted and funny the story is. Starring Kim SeJeong as Shin HaRi, Ahn HyoSeop as Kang TaeMu, Seol InA as Jin YoungSeo, and Kim MinGue as Cha SungHoon. The story follows Kang TaeMu the brilliant CEO of GoFoods who upon his return to South Korea, is being set on a blind date with Shin YoungSeo by his grandfather. Shin YoungSeo is dead set on not marrying for money but rather for love and she asks her friend Shin HaRi to once again go on the blind date disguised as her and scare TaeMu away. Plans go awry as Shin HaRi discovers that the blind date is her boss TaeMu and while he doesn’t recognize her, she tries to accomplish her mission. Soon enough he discovers the real YoungSeo and on a quest for revenge and to save face with his grandfather, he comes up with a fake relationship plan that will ultimately see the two characters falling head over heels in love with each other.  

3. “Twenty-Five Twenty-One”

This gripping love story that is told through a flashback sequence did not just create many heart-warming scenarios that made viewers swoon but also led to many putting on their detective hats as with the end of each episode, they sought to figure out, who ended up with Na HeeDo. Starring Kim TaeRi as Na HeeDo and Nam JooHyuk as Baek YiJin, the storyline centers around a troubled but gifted high school fencer who is set to prove everyone wrong by becoming a national champion and a young sports reporter who is on a mission to rebuild his families reputation during the South Korean Financial Crises. A story told through a diary, viewers are taken on a turbulent, mysterious but sweet journey of love, rivalry, friendship, and family.  

4. “Crazy Love”

Funny and irresistibly charming, this is a classic love story with a comical and modern twist. Starring Kim JaeWook as Noh GoJin and Krystal as Lee ShinAh, the story tells the tale of a smart but mean CEO and his secretary who upon a false diagnosis believes she has a month to live and sets out to take revenge on her boss Noh GoJin, who in many ways might have contributed to her current predicament. Seeking to scare him, things take a turn for the worse as clearly she is not the only one set on taking revenge on the mean No GoJin. A car accident leads to a pretend case of amnesia as realizing that people hate him so much (including those he trusts) enough to try to kill him, he sought to find out who was behind the car accident. In his angst, however, love rears its beautiful head as a budding romance (however crazy), is set to put these two people who truly need each other, together.  

5. “Forecasting Love and Weather”

This office romance series tells the story of people who work at the National Weather Service. Starring Park MinYoung as Jin HaKyung and Song Kang as Lee SiWoo, their first meeting serves as a spark to what becomes a fiery relationship filled emotional moments that deeply explore various relatable topics present today. Jin HaKyung is smart and dedicated to her work, her passion makes her rise quickly to become a team leader in the department but what seems like a perfect life soon shakes up when she discovers her boyfriend of 10 years cheated on her, broke off their engagement plans, and married the woman he cheated on her with. Lee SiWoo is a smart and ambitious meteorologist who is very serious about his work. He moves to the head office to further his experience and there he meets Jin HaKyung. While one has to deal with the rising complications and discomfort of working with an ex, another carries a trauma caused by his dysfunctional relationship with his father that has makes it difficult for him to have a stable relationship. As their stories unfold, viewers get to see how they navigate the stormy weather in hopes to see the rays of the sunshine.  

6. “Soundtrack #1”

The 4 episodes music drama starring Han SoHee as Lee EunSoo and Park HyungSik as Han SunWoo tell the tale of two friends who try to discover the true meaning behind their feelings when they both move in together.
