There are K-Pop fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other’s stories and K-Pop life. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other. So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias. Nikki from South Florida, United States is the next fan to answer our questions. She is a fan of GOT7, particularly of Jay B! Check out how she entered the fandom, the songs and content she advises to new fans, and much more! Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from? Hi. I’m Nikki from sunny South Florida. I like anime, art, movies, traveling, and music. How and when did you enter the fandom? My K-Pop journey started with WonHo who used to be in MONSTA X. I saw a viral YouTube video of him and bought a ticket to his first online show for his first mini album. That was September 2020. Then I became a fan of MONSTA X, GOT7, EXO, and others after diving deeper into K-pop. I am a multi-fan of K-Pop groups. What are the reasons why you love your favorite group? My ult group is GOT7. I like GOT7 because their music resonates with what I feel and also I can hear the influence of R&B music that I listen too. The tracks they create are all uniquely different and the album concepts and the meaning behind the album are very thoughtful. They have great talent as writers, composers, vocalists, and rappers. Who caught your attention at first and why? YuGyeom was the first to catch my attention from ‘Last Piece’ video. Tall and handsome, with great dance skills. But then, I saw the Dingo video of the blindfold performance of ‘Aura’ and laid eyes on Jay B, it was over for YuGyeom. Jay B stole my attention. He really has amazing vocals and stage presence. YuGyeom is now my bias wrecker. Who is your bias, and why? Jay B. I like his stage presence. A majority of the songs I first heard and loved, I then learned he wrote/produced them. We have similar music taste; he’s laidback, funny, has a generous heart, is authentically himself, helps whoever he can, and shares his emotion. A good man, friend, and son. Can you recommend a title track and a B-side track for new fans? ‘A’ from GOT❤️ is a good title track. A fun, happy track with great vocals from everyone. B-sides, I highly recommend ‘Come On’. I don’t know what Jay B thought about when he made it, but I was so shocked and surprised when I heard it. The vibes it gives are so good, like just amazing. Can you recommend a fancam, V Live, cover video, cover dance, or individual content video of the group? Any of GOT7 relay dance videos, all Studio Choom videos, Dingo Music videos for Aura, or any funny dance videos by fans. Can you share with us one of your favorite lyrics? Basically all the lyrics from ‘Believe’ by Bambam on “Spinning Top” album. A great song. Are there any words from the members you would like to share? Jackson Wang always gives great advice. One quote: “Everyone’s happiness metrics is different so I hope all of you (fans) can find the happiness that suits you eventually…” Can you describe your bias in only one word? To describe Jay B in one word would be “chill”. If you spend a day with your bias, where will you go and what will you do? So if we’re in South Korea, I’d like him to show me some cool places that give off that “Off the beaten path” vibe, like little treasures only a few people know about. Do you have a dream subunit/unit? Yes. I want another ATK (Ameri-Thai-Kong) collab or subunit from Mark, Jackson, and Bambam. They performed ‘Nightmare’ during MAMA Awards a few years back and I’m just holding on to that. Name a variety show/content show that you would love to see your bias on? Tell us why. I’d like to see Jay B do a travel and food show. He likes travelling and loves eating good food. Please recommend your favorite selfie by your bias. This is my favorite selfie of Jay B: Have you ever made a new friend because of K-Pop? Yes. Shout out to my Twitter moots that I met irl at concerts this year. They’re all great people.
