A nuisance to evil, a vindicator to the oppressed, a motivator to the downcasted, an unwavering warrior for justice, and everyone’s favorite troublemaker. EXO’s D.O.’s character as Jin Jung in the hit legal thriller K-Drama “Bad Prosecutor” poses the traits of the kind of hero that many viewers either want to be by their side or aspire to be like today. Starring EXO’s D.O., Lee SeHee, and Ha Jun, the series tells the story of an eccentric and crazy prosecutor who seeks to bring to justice anyone who breaks or misuses the law and harms the innocent. He is not afraid as he seeks to uproot the evils of the world, wherever they may lie. Fierce, fearless, charismatic, and confident, Jin Jung is not your regular suit-wearing Prosecutor. Cladded in his “expensive” leather jacket and a pair of jeans and armed with his Kendo stick, he goes on his way, hunting down criminals, defending the wronged, protecting the innocent, chasing truths, uncovering mysteries, and making his world a step closer to being corrupt free. Haven’t started this series? Here are some of the reasons why you need to add it to your watch list.
1. Its comic moments
While the series is an action thriller, it could also readily pass as a comedy as well. There are various moments that serve as pure comedic gold, subtle or explicit, these moments serve as a refreshing boost to the series. D.O.’s character is the driving force for this, from his witty statements and reactions to his hilarious facial expressions, even when he doesn’t try to be funny, it flows so effortlessly and that’s what makes it even better.
2. It has a very fine balance
However, despite its many comical moments, it doesn’t just rely on making people laugh alone, as that would take away the purpose and beauty of the series. There is a fine balance between comic and serious. It still plays on the anticipation of the viewer. This fact transcends the series to a plane of pure entertainment as viewers can get the feeling of both the pure intensity of excitement and intrigue. And even though many viewers might notably predict some of the scenarios in the storyline (thanks to years of repeated K-Drama tropes) it is still an enjoyable and thrilling ride as the actors’ brilliant portrayal of their characters also brings this series to full life. Asides from D.O. another actor who would no doubt live a notable impression in the minds of viewers is Ha Jun. His fine acting as Oh DoHwan, the brilliant and ambitious prosecutor who seems to use every opportunity to rise to power but still shows glimpses of interest in justice and truth is gaining him tons of recognition online as many are excited to see how his story untold. P.S he might be a villain now but we somehow see a redemption arc coming soon.
3. Mr. Doh KyungSoo himself
If you’re a fan of D.O.’s impressive filmography, then this series would also suit your taste as yet again with his stellar performance, he doesn’t disappoint. One thing we can expect from D.O., (a trait that many K-Drama fans have come to enjoy from many of the greats) is how well he fully immerses himself into his role. It is so good that irrespective of the genre or plot, you do not see D.O. the acting-dol but rather, the character he plays. This is part of what makes him special. It is all about how well he portrays the emotions of the characters that makes viewers form or feel a connection to them. He is the annoying brother that gets on your last nerve but you cannot help but love in “My Annoying Brother”, the haughty Crown Prince with amnesia who is bounded by fate and true love, seeks to reclaim power and overthrow the tyrant who tried to assassinate him in “100 Days My Prince” and now, a Kendo wielding warrior for justice on a quest to uproot and eliminate corruption from the society in “Bad Prosecutor”. All different roles with different personality traits and connection with the audience and all brilliantly played by D.O..
4. The dialogue
Many legal dramas are known to have the best and most engaging dialogues. It is never draggy or boring. These fast-paced interactions keep your senses awake throughout the series as every moment feels like a key action, a vital piece that makes up the crazy puzzle. This series also wins in this department as its dialogue is not just impressively swift but also engaging as well. Good or bad, the dialogue keeps you engaged in each character and their sub-plots.
